Women’s tennis on the road for rematch at Gonzaga

Following a rash of cancelations, the Montana women's tennis team returns to the courts on Sunday for its first match since the end of January when the Grizzlies travel to Spokane for a rematch against Gonzaga.
The Griz (1-2) last faced the Bulldogs (4-1) on January 24 in their first match of the season after having been scheduled to play GU twice earlier in the month.
Now Montana returns to the Stevens Tennis Center for round two in search of the upset and its second win of the season, having split their previous outing against Lewis-Clark State and Washington State in late January.
"It feels like it's been forever, but we're excited to get back over there for sure," said head coach Steve Ascher.
"We know Gonzaga is good, and we know we're going to get a great match. The girls are excited to play them again and get after it. They've been training hard and putting in the hours, so they're ready to roll."

THE BREAKDOWN: Montana has been all or nothing so far this season, or the small sample size that makes up the season thus far.
In UM's first match at GU, the Bulldogs swept the Griz 7-0. Then the Griz traveled to Lewiston, Idaho, to face the NAIA LC State Warriors and came away with a 7-0 win. They then traveled north to Pullman and fell 7-0 to a strong Washington State side.
In their limited time on the court, Montana has seen a bit of everything. With Big Sky play right around the corner and plenty of time on the practice courts over the last two weeks, Ascher says the Griz are hungry for another shot at a win.
While having only five matches under their belt, the Bulldogs have emerged as one of the top teams in the region, boasting a 4-3 upset over the Oregon Ducks on top of wins over Montana, Montana State and Eastern Washington. Gonzaga nearly added to its upset list last week, falling in a narrow 4-3 result to Washington State.
"This is only going to be our fourth match. Going into March, that's incredible," said Ascher.
"So, we just need to get some more experience, but the girls understand. We've only played a couple of matches, but we've played Gonzaga and Wazzu, and that was an eye-opener. Now knew what we needed to work on, and they've really stepped it up,"
The Griz are next scheduled to face Idaho State on February 26 in Missoula.
