The Montana softball team lost twice on Friday as the Tracy Beard College Classic opened in Melissa, Texas.
The Grizzlies (3-4) lost 8-0 to North Texas in five innings and 2-1 to Nevada as the Wolf Pack picked up its first win of the season.
Montana went 10 for 46 (.217) in the two games. Nine of the Grizzlies' hits were singles.
North Texas, a 38-win team last season and a heavyweight in Conference USA, handed Allie Brock (3-1), the Big Sky Conference co-Pitcher of the Week, her first loss of the season.
The Mean Green scored three times in the first, once in the third and three more times in the fourth off Brock, with all seven runs coming across with two outs. All were earned.
North Texas out-hit Montana just 8-5 but left only two runners on base and had a double, triple and home run, extra-base hits that drove in five.
The Mean Green were 6 for 9 with two outs, 5 for 10 with runners on base and 4 for 5 with runners in scoring position.
Maggie Joseph pitched the bottom of the fifth and gave up a sacrifice fly that gave North Texas an 8-0 lead and ended the game.
Maygen McGrath had two of Montana's five hits.
Dana Butterfield dropped to 0-3 on the season with her loss to Nevada, her second 2-1 setback in three starts to open her Montana career.
She allowed seven hits but only two singles over the final four innings. Nevada scored twice in the bottom of the second on a pair of RBI singles to go up 2-0.
Montana loaded the bases in the top of the third but could only cut the deficit to 2-1 on a Cami Sellers sacrifice.
The Grizzlies would leave two stranded in the third, eight for the game, including two in the sixth and the bases loaded when the game ended in the seventh.
After Butterfield kept it a 2-1 game through six, Montana loaded the bases in the top of the seventh with one out.
Presley Jantzi, pinch hitting, reached on an error, Jaxie Klucewich had an infield single, and Kylie Becker walked.
That brought up Sellers and McGrath, as good a situation as Montana could ask for, but Sellers grounded back to the pitcher, who got the second out at home, and McGrath flew out to right.
Klucewich finished with two hits. Butterfield lowered her ERA to 2.45.
Montana will play Colorado State at 11 a.m. (MT) on Saturday, Nevada at 4 p.m. (MT).
