Griz host Idaho State and Northern Arizona for last doubleheader of the season

MISSOULA, Mont. – The Montana women's tennis team continues its homestand this weekend, hosting Idaho State and Northern Arizona for a pair of conference matches at the PEAK Racquet Club. The Griz will face off against the Bengals at 9 a.m. on Friday, then square off against the Lumberjacks at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Admission is free for all fans and spectators. There will be live scoring available for those who are not in attendance, which can be found on gogriz.com.
"We are looking forward to a couple of great matches at the PEAK this weekend. Everyone is battling and we are striving to pull out one of these close matches," said head coach Steve Ascher.
"The parity in women's tennis has been the best we've ever seen in the conference, from top to bottom. We are going to have to fight like crazy to earn a win and start building that belief that we can continue to pull out these close battles."
Montana comes off a tight 3-4 loss against Weber State this past weekend in Missoula. The Griz have lost four matches that have been decided by one point.

A GLIMPSE AT THE GRIZ:
- Montana is 5-12 on the year and 0-5 in Big Sky play. The Griz have edged Seattle, LC State, Dixie State and George Fox throughout the season.
- Senior Lauren Dunlap leads the team in singles, posting a record of 9-7. The Grizzly has won her last three singles matches in three sets.
- Rosie Sterk owns a singles record of 4-2 in her first season with Montana.
- Freshman Grace Haugen sits at 6-6 on the season in singles and holds a record of 6-7 in doubles.
- Olivia Oosterbaan comes off a winning weekend, bringing in results for singles and doubles. The junior posts an 8-9 singles record and a 6-10 doubles record. Oosterbaan has played her last four singles matches at position one, posting a record of 2-2.
- Head coach Steve Ascher owns a record of 125-182 in his 14th season with the Griz.
SCOUTING IDAHO STATE:
- Idaho State currently stands second in the Big Sky, posting an overall record of 10-4 and a conference record of 3-1. The Bengals have defeated Portland State, Eastern Washington, and Sacramento State, with Northern Arizona giving them their only conference loss of the season.
- In recent history, Montana owns a 14-4 record against Idaho State, keeping a two-match win streak versus the Bengals.
- Since 2010, Idaho State is 1-8 when playing Missoula, with the last time being in February of 2021, when the Griz defeated the Bengals 5-2.
- Freshman Leah Kuruvilla leads the team in singles, owning a 9-4 record, playing primarily in position five.
- The Bengals return sophomore Lola O'Lideadha, who earned multiple All-Conference honors in 2021. O'Lideadha owns a singles record of 8-4, having the second most wins on the team.
- Gretchen Maloney is in her fifth season of serving as the head coach, and her sixth season overall with ISU.
SCOUTING NORTHERN ARIZONA:
- Northern Arizona stands third in the Big Sky, owning a record of 5-7 overall and 3-1 in conference. The Lumberjacks are on a three-match win streak, taking down Sacramento State, Idaho State, and Eastern Washington.
- Dating back to 2010, Montana owns a record of 5-10 versus Northern Arizona. The last match the Griz won was in April of 2015, when UM clinched a 5-2 win over the Lumberjacks in Missoula.
- In the last 11 years, NAU carries a record of 5-4 when traveling to Missoula.
- Former Big Sky MVP and Big Sky Freshman of the Year, sophomore Gina Dittmann leads the Lumberjacks in singles, posting a 9-2 record on the season.
- Lumberjack Mimi Bland returns to the courts for her junior season after earning All-Big Sky First Team honors in singles and doubles. The junior owns a 6-2 singles record and 3-3 doubles record.
- Head coach Ewa Bogusz is in the midst of her fourth season with the Lumberjacks. The former Big Sky Women's Tennis Coach of the year owns a record of 39-24 at NAU.
