Following a string of hugely successful induction banquets and star-studded classes, the University of Montana Athletic Department is once again accepting nominations for its two most prestigious honors: The Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame (GSHF) and the Grizzly Lifetime Honors Award (GLHA), presented by Wipfli.
Â
The nomination deadline for both awards to be included in the class of 2023 is April 1.
Â
Grizzly Athletics will then celebrate this year's class at the annual induction ceremony in the Adams Center on Friday, October 27, and will introduce them at the football game against Northern Colorado on October 28.
Â
To nominate a former player, coach, or team to the GSHF, or to nominate a supporter or administrator for the GLHA, fill out the nomination forms at the links above and include as much supporting information as possible.
Â
Nominations and supporting material can be emailed to GSHF Committee Chair Eric Taber at: eric.taber@mso.umt.edu.
Â
Nomination packets can also be mailed to:
Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame Committee
John Hoyt Athletic Complex
32 Campus Drive

Â
The Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame was created to "pay tribute and give lasting recognition to those student-athletes, coaches, and teams who have made exceptional contributions and brought recognition, honor, and distinction to the University of Montana in the field of Intercollegiate Athletics, and who have continued to demonstrate in their lives the values imparted by their experiences."
Â
The Grizzly Lifetime Honors Award was established in 2018 "to pay tribute and give recognition to supporters of UM athletics who are not eligible for the Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame, which includes only athletes and coaches."
Â
The Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame is comprised of 71 former UM athletes, coaches, and teams. Four long-time servants of Grizzly Athletics have received the Lifetime Honors Award.
Â
Montana inducted another banner class to the Hall of Fame in 2022, with All-American runner Scott McGowan of Poplar, Lady Griz Big Sky MVP Ann (Lake) Rausch of Missoula, All-America offensive lineman Thatcher Szalay of Whitefish, and championship-winning basketball player and coach Blaine Taylor of Missoula being honored.
Â
Long-time voice of Montana athletics "Grizzly" Bill Schwanke was also presented the lifetime honors award at the sold-out banquet in the Adams Center.
Â
Athletes and coaches become eligible for nomination 10 years after their careers at the University of Montana end. A complete description of the mission and criteria, and nomination forms for the GSHF and the GLHA, are available at GoGriz.com.
Â
Plaques listing the accomplishments of the athletes, coaches, and teams inducted into both the Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame and the Grizzly Lifetime Honors Award are on permanent display in the southeast corner of the "Hall of Champions" located in UM's Adams Center.
