Griz return home for key conference matches

The Montana men's tennis team will look for some of that home-court magic this week as the Grizzlies return to Missoula for a pair of crucial conference matches at the Peak Racquet Club.
Â
The Griz (9-8, 1-3 BSC) open the weekend slate on Friday, hosting the defending conference champion Idaho Vandals (9-7, 2-1 BSC) at 2 p.m. as part of Montana's "Spring Festival" lineup of events.
Â
UM then caps the home stand Saturday at noon against the Portland State Vikings (6-11, 1-3 BSC) with FREE pizza for fans in attendance.
Â
With the Griz sitting in fifth and both teams bookending Montana in this week's Big Sky standings, Montana will need every ounce of home-court advantage they can get to lock up one of the coveted top-six seeds and advance to the conference tourney.
Â
Luckily the Peak has been a virtual impenetrable fortress for the Griz in recent years. Under head coach Jason Brown, Montana holds a stellar 31-4 record in Missoula since 2018.
Â
They say a wounded animal is the most dangerous, and smarting from a pair of road losses, the Griz enter the weekend thirsty for a win as they look to hit their stride in the business end of the season.
Â
"This is when we want to peak. This is when we want to be playing our best tennis. I feel like it's been coming together in practice, and now we've got to put it to use in these matches," said Brown.
Â
SPRING FESTIVAL:Â On Friday, April 7, Montana is hosting a Spring Festival, with women's tennis, men's tennis, softball, and football all competing in Missoula, culminating with the spring football game at 6 p.m. inside Washington-Grizzly Stadium.
Â
Fans are encouraged to make April 7 a day full of Griz Athletics, attending as many Griz sporting events as possible. In fact, fans can collect Easter Eggs at each Griz sporting event that day and redeem their eggs at the spring football game for prizes ranging from Griz apparel to signed merchandise and game tickets. The grand-prize winner will take home a pair of suite tickets to the 2023 Griz-Cat football game on Nov. 18.
