Seniors Grace Haugen and Rosie Sterk, the Montana women's tennis team's No. 1 singles player and No. 1 doubles pair, will cap their Grizzly careers as repeat all-conference honorees. The pair were named first team All-Big Sky doubles and Haugen eared second team All-Big Sky honors in singles as voted on by the league's coaches, the conference announced Wednesday.
Â
For Haugen, it's her second time earning singles all-conference recognition after landing on the first team in 2022 and her third time honored as a doubles player, earning an honorable mention in 2024 and landing on the second team in 2022. She finished her senior season at 9-5 overall and 4-3 in league play in singles and earned Big Sky Player of the Week honors in January after going undefeated in a weekend trip to Colorado State and Air Force.
Â
Sterk finishes her career as three-time honoree and a two-time first team selection in doubles after earning a spot as a sophomore in 2023 and an honorable mention as a junior in 2024. She and Haugen went 11-5 overall in doubles this season – tied for the second most total wins in the league, and 5-2 in conference doubles.
Â
"First team honors in doubles for Grace and Rosie is a great milestone to finish their careers on. They had some great road wins at NAU, Sac State, and against Idaho. To beat the top players from the three top teams in the conference is quite a feat. They had great chemistry and when they played with aggression and attacked the net, they were a force all season both in conference and against good D-I teams outside the conference," said head coach Steve Ascher.
Â
"Grace had a strong year in singles and was recognized by the conference coaches. Her play improved in many areas, and she did a solid job battling through physical issues all season. To show that mental resiliency and to fight all the way to the end was a pleasure to see."
Â
Haugen and Sterk were also key components in helping Montana win a share of the 2024 regular season Big Sky title.
