Ports leads Grizzlies on Day 2 of Bobcat Desert Classic

Montana senior Hannah Ports shot a 4-over 76 on Tuesday to lead the Grizzlies as the Bobcat Desert Classic continued at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.

Montana shot a 316 after opening with a 315 on Monday. The Grizzlies sit 13th in the 13-team field with one final round on Wednesday.

Ports shot an 84 on Monday and knocked eight strokes off her score on Tuesday, including carding her first birdie of the tournament, on her third hole of the day, the 366-yard, par-4 2nd.

It was Ports' second-best round of the spring, her fourth-lowest score of the year.
Â
Ports and Kate Bogenschutz, who carded a 79, were the only two Grizzlies in the 70s on Tuesday.

Bella Johnson shot 80, Katie Lewis an 81. Raina Ports shot an 82, as did Salina Lui and Hope Torres, who are competing as individuals.

Bogenschutz (78-79) is tied for 57th, Johnson (79-80) is tied for 64th, Lewis (79-81) and Hannah Ports (84-76) are tied for 68th. Raina Ports (79-82) is tied for 72nd.

Torres (80-82) is tied for 74th, Lui (82-82) is tied for 76th in the 79-player field.

Seattle (289-289), which is 2-over as a team, takes a four-stroke lead over Montana State (287-295) into Wednesday's final round.

North Dakota State (291-295), Utah Tech (297-289) and Wyoming (300-288) round out the top five.

There is a five-way tie atop the individual leaderboard.

NDSU's Avery Bartels (67-75), Seattle's Zoe Rubichon (69-73) and Blayne Brown (73-69), Cal Baptist's Pusanisa Ekkantrong (73-69) and Wyoming's Kiley Reisner (74-68) are all 2-under.

Two golfers are at 1-under through 36 holes, three more at even par, two strokes off the lead.

Wednesday's final round will conclude the tournament. The three-day Big Sky Conference Championship will start on Monday at Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
