Gault heads to California for Bryan Clay Multis

While most of the Montana track and field roster will rest this weekend following two straight weeks of competition, there is one athlete that is heading south for a big test as we approach the midway point of the outdoor season.
Â
Kensey Gault will travel to Azusa, Calif. to compete in the Bryan Clay Multis hosted by Azusa Pacific on April 9-10. Gault will be the only Grizzly in action this week with the rest of the team back in Missoula training in preparation for a big week next week.
Â
Montana has had some tremendous athletes in the women's heptathlon in program history and Gault, a sophomore for the Griz, is looking to carry on that tradition. She narrowly missed out on an All-Conference honor indoors with a 4th place finish in the pentathlon.
Â
Now as she transitions to the outdoor season, Gault faces her first big test in California.
Â
"It's always a great thing for us to be able to send our top multis down to Southern California for this competition," head coach Doug Fraley said. "Kensey certainly deserves that after her performance at the indoor championships. We're looking forward to her going down there and having a great experience and competing against very good competition for her first outdoor multi of the year."
Â
Gault scored for Montana in the heptathlon as a freshman at last year's Big Sky Outdoor Championships. She finished the meet in Sacramento with a score of 4,511 to place 6th overall in the competition won by her teammate Whitney Morrison.
Â
She now makes her first career trip to California in what has become a pivotal two-week period of meets for the Grizzlies in recent years.
Â
Gault will compete in Section D against athletes from all over the country. She will face off with athletes from Arizona, Kansas, Nevada, Southern Utah, North Dakota State, St. Thomas, Idaho, and more. Â
Â
The meet opens at 12:00 p.m. (MT) with the 100m hurdles. Gault will then compete in the high jump, shot put, and 200m on Thursday to wrap up the opening day of competition. She returns on Friday for the long jump at 12:00 p.m.
Â
Gault wraps things up with the javelin and 800m on Friday afternoon.
Â
The rest of Montana's roster will be off until April 16. The Grizzlies will compete in multiple California meets from the 16th through to the 18th at Long Beach State.
