
Griz host Bengals in final regular-season home game

THE GAME: The University of Montana Grizzlies (18-7/10-3) play their final regular-season home game, hosting the Idaho State Bengals (8-16/4-8) on Wednesday Feb. 16. The Big Sky Conference contest will also be "Senior Night" and center Brian Qvale, the Grizzlies' only senior will be recognized prior to the game.
TIP-OFF: The game in UM's Dahlberg Arena (7,321/press row: 406-243-4281) begins at 7:05 p.m.
RADIO: UM's flagship station is KGVO Radio (1290 AM). The "Voice of the Grizzlies" Mick Holien calls the play-by-play for his 18th season in a row, and Greg Sundberg provides color commentary.

THE FIRST MEETING EARLIER THIS SEASON (JAN. 20TH): MONTANA 75 at IDAHO STATE 65: Senior center Brian Qvale set conference and school records in career blocks to lead the way. Qvale, a 6-11 senior from Williston, N.D., had a block at the 15:59 mark of the first half, giving him 213 in his career, and he passed former Griz center Daren Engellant (212 blocks, 1988-92) for Big Sky and Montana records. The Griz led 59-52 with 6:50 left but, ISU rallied and out-scored UM 9-0 over the next two-plus minutes, and took a 61-59 lead with 4:04 left to play on a pair of free throws by senior guard Broderick Gilchrest. Montana tied the game for the 10th and final time at 61-all with 3:55 left on a lay-up by junior forward Art Steward, and UM then out-scored ISU 14-4 the rest the game. Qvale had team-highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Also in double figures for UM were Steward (15), sophomore guard Will Cherry (14), and junior forward Derek Selvig (10). Gilchrest led ISU with 19 points, while ISU senior center Deividas Busma had a team-high 10 rebounds.
GRIZ 16TH IN MID-MAJOR POLL: Montana was ranked 16th (from 17th) in the most recent (Feb. 14) CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll. St. Mary's (22-4) remained first in the poll and received 29 first place votes. (Top 25 poll on add 6-6-6 of this release).
QVALE BIG SKY'S ALL-TIME SHOT BLOCKER: Qvale is now the all-time leading shot blocker in Big Sky history with 232 and counting.
CHERRY, QVALE RANKED AMONG LEADERS: Cherry is ranked sixth in the nation in steals at 2.8 a game. Qvale is ranked fourth in field goal percentage (63.1%) and sixth in blocked shots (3.2 a game) (Griz in the top 100 in NCAA rankings on add 5-5-5).
QVALE BREAKS SINGLE-SEASON RECORDS: Qvale has 80 blocked shots this season, a Griz record, and the second most in Big Sky single-season history (Please see add 3-3-3).
CHERRY BACK IN ACTION: Cherry missed two games (at NAU and versus Sac State) due to injury, but played in the UNC win, scoring 4 points in 31 minutes of action.
