Women's tennis wins over Utah State

The University of Montana women's tennis team battled to beat a tough Utah State team in Logan, Utah, 5-2 Saturday on the second day of its three-match weekend.
Sophomore Maddy Murray made a huge impact on the match, in both doubles and singles, with her two victories.
Both Murray and partner Sasha Cater won in a tie breaker to capture a doubles victory over Kristina Voystekovich and Romina Nedakovic. Murray then defeated Brianna Rowland in three sets to win the No. 5 match and clinch the fourth point for the Grizzlies sealing the team win.
Murray won her first set handily winning, 6-1, but things got dicey as Murray dropped her second set 7-6 in a tie breaker. Murray then rallied and returned to form with a 6-0 third-set win.
The Grizzlies dominated the bottom of the lineup winning at Nos. 3, 4, 5 and 6. Along with Murray, sophomore Ashley Mackey won at No. 3 as well as Carter and freshman Precious Gbadamosi at Nos. 4 and 6.
"This was a great win today," said coach Steve Ascher. "Pulling out a closely contested doubles point was a nice momentum boost to the day.
"Over the next four hours the team competed very well and was able to pull out some well played matches to earn the victory."
Montana will wrap up its road trip with Idaho State in Pocatello, Idaho, Sunday. Match play will begin at 11:00 a.m. (MT). As always, results and a full recap will be posted on GoGriz.com at the conclusion of competition.
