Griz claim 5-2 win over Grand Canyon

The Montana women's tennis team bounced back from its 4-3 conference loss to Northern Arizona Friday with a 5-2 victory over division II nationally ranked Grand Canyon University in Mesa, Ariz., Saturday.
The Antelopes are currently ranked 13th in nation among division II schools and have two players in the top 10 regionally.
Montana (10-6, 3-1 BSC) started the day with a 2-1 team win in doubles to take the first point. Regionally ranked Heather Davidson and Laurence Pelchat gained a much needed 8-6 win over Justine Majan and Celcilia Vergnet, while Sasha Carter and Maddy Murray also put one in the winner's column with an 8-3 win over Katharina Mittag and Franziska Schmid.
Montana lost two singles matches on the day, both in three sets. In the No. 1 match Davidson lost to No. 7 regionally ranked Priscilla Annoual 4-6, 6-4, 10-4 and Sophomore Ashley Mackey lost to Majan 3-6, 6-0, 6-2.
Pelchat won her match handily at No. 2 in straight sets as well as Carter, Murray and Precious Gbadamosi at Nos. 4, 5 and 6.
"This was a good chance to play a competitive team outdoors," said coach Steve Ascher. "We are really looking forward to returning home to play nationally ranked Sacramento State on Saturday."
Montana's win over the `Lopes marked its last road dual of the regular season. The Griz have played 16 straight road meets since January.
The Griz will take on Big Sky favorite Sacramento State at home on Saturday.
