
Griz open four-game homestand against Southern Utah Thursday

THE GAME(S): The 25th-ranked (CollegeInsider.com's recent Mid-Major Top 25 Poll) University of Montana Grizzlies (10-4/6-0 BSC) begin a four-game Big Sky Conference home stand this week, hosting new league member Southern Utah (5-10/3-3) on Thursday, Jan. 17, and the Montana State Bobcats (6-8/3-3) on Saturday, Jan. 19. Tip-off in UM's Dahlberg Arena (7,321) is at 7:05 p.m. for both games.
SUU GAME SPONSOR: The Griz-Thunderbird game on Thursday, Jan. 17, is sponsored by Garden City Plumbing and Heating.
RADIO/STREAMING: The "Voice of the Griz" Mick Holien, a 13-time "Montana Broadcaster of the Year" pick, calls the action on local KGVO Radio (1290 AM/101.5 FM) for his 20th season in a row, while Greg Sundberg is the analyst. TV: The Griz-Cat game will be televised on Max Media (ABC/Fox) in Montana. Chris Byers calls the play-by-play and Mark Durhman serves as the analyst.
6-0!: UM stayed undefeated in Big Sky play at 6-0, winning two road games -- 85-77 at Northern Colorado and 77-62 at North Dakota 62 last week. (Game boxes in release).
WIN STREAK: The Grizzlies have now won 17 straight Big Sky games.
GRIZ RANKED IN 3-POINT% & FT%: Montana is ranked 5th in the nation in free throw percentage at 77.5%, while Davidson is the leader at 80.8%. UM is 10th in the country in 3-point field goal percentage at 41.4%, and the leader is Creighton at 45.3%.
UM-SUU SERIES: The series is tied 5-5. Last meeting (2004-05) : at Montana 69, SUU 57. The T-Birds are 3-4 versus the Grizzlies in Missoula.
CHERRY ON CAREER LISTS: Cherry is the all-time school leader in career steals with 234, which ranks him fourth in Big Sky. He's 9th at UM in career assists (348) and 11th in career scoring (1,274 points). (See add 3 for Will's career stats rankings).
COACH TINKLE MOVES UP LIST: Seventh-year head coach Wayne Tinkle now has a Big Sky record of 72-30. He trails all-time leader Mike Montgomery, who had a 73-39 league ledger from 1979-86, by just one conference victory for the most in school history.
