Griz win fifth straight, remain perfect in Big Sky

The Montana women's tennis team completed a 3-0 weekend and won its fifth-straight match overall with a 6-1 victory over Montana State Sunday afternoon at the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center in Bozeman.
The Grizzlies, who defeated New Mexico and Idaho earlier in the weekend at Bozeman, both by 5-2 scores, improved to 3-0 in Big Sky Conference matches with their win over the Bobcats.
Montana upped its record to 7-4 and handed Montana State (3-4, 2-1 BSC) its first league loss.
"This was another good victory to wrap up a solid weekend of competition on the road," UM coach Steve Ascher said.
Montana won at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to take an early 1-0 lead, then won five of six singles matches. Four of those singles wins came in straight sets.
"Montana State always competes hard and demonstrates a strong desire on the court. I felt our team matched their intensity and was able to pull through by focusing on playing disciplined tennis.
"We are continuing to become stronger players and really focus on what is necessary to be successful each match."
Montana will play a pair of matches in Portland this weekend. The Grizzlies will face the University of Portland Friday at 1 p.m. (MT) and Portland State Saturday at 2 p.m. (MT).
