The Montana women's tennis team lost to No. 30 Utah 7-0 Wednesday evening at the Eccles Tennis Center in Salt Lake City. The loss snapped the Grizzlies' five-match winning streak.
The Utes (11-6) won all three doubles matches, though juniors Haley Driver and Precious Gbadamosi pushed the match at No. 1 to 8-5, and juniors Sasha Carter and Laurence Pelchat fell 9-7 at No. 2.
Montana (10-6) was just as competitive in most of the singles matches.
"We're working hard on this bigger stage to work through the nerves and put our best foot forward and try to push these teams as hard as we can," said UM coach Steve Ascher.
"We'll continue to learn from these matches so that next time we can do even better."
Carter won her opening set at No. 3, 6-4, then fell in a tight second-set tiebreaker and 10-4 in a super breaker.
Driver fell to No. 79 Tereza Bekerova 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1, Gbadamosi lost 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2, and Ashley Mackey dropped a 7-5, 6-3 decision at No. 5.
"This was a tough match against an unranked but well-coached team," said Utah coach Mat Iandolo.
Montana will face Utah State Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Logan, Utah.
