Grizzly women lose to Iowa 6-1

The Montana women's tennis team dropped its fourth straight match Saturday morning in Eugene, Oregon against the University of Iowa, but the performance from one Grizzly stood out.
Sasha Carter, a senior for Montana (0-4) who is ranked No. 5 in the Mountain Region, moved to 2-0 on the road trip with a big 6-2, 6-3 win over Anastasia Reimchen. The win was the lone point the Grizzlies earned against the Hawkeyes (4-0).
"Sasha has been playing with a lot of intensity and putting her best game forward," coach Steve Ascher said. "She is playing an all-court game and making great choices."
Catherine Orfanos, who won her first singles match of the season Friday, almost moved to 2-0. After winning the first set 4-6, she dropped the second 7-5 and fell in the tiebreak 10-4.
"Cat is competing very well and had a good chance to win her match today," Ascher said. "I really like her competitive fire and how she is aware of how to construct points."
The rest of the Grizzly roster all fell in straight sets.
In doubles, Precious Gbadamosi and Laurence Pelchat earned a tight 6-5 (3) victory at the No. 1 spot, but the win came after the Grizzlies had already lost the doubles point due to Iowa victories at the No. 2 and 3 spots.
This was not the first time the Grizzlies have won a doubles match, but failed to take away the point. Ascher said every doubles team is capable of winning, they just need to be more consistent.
"We have had chance in every match to win the doubles point," he said. "We know that each of the three teams can win every day, we just need make it happen."
The victory moved Iowa to a perfect 4-0 on the season. They have lost only three out of 26 matches.
Montana travels to Portland to begin Big Sky Conference play against the Vikings Sunday morning. Portland State (4-2/1-0 BSC) is fresh off a 4-3 victory against Seattle University. They are currently riding a four-match winning streak.
