The Montana Grizzlies women's tennis team coasted to an easy victory against Idaho State Saturday morning in Missoula, winning the match 6-1.
Montana (10-10/8-2 BSC) entered the game the heavy favorite and wasted no time establishing that fact. The Griz swept through all three double matches to take the first point.
In singles, Montana once again asserted its dominance and made quick work of the Bengals, winning the first five matches. Precious Gbadamosi bounced back from a loss yesterday with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1.
Sasha Carter continued her pursuit of perfection with an easy 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Hannah Sulz provided the clincher at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-3 victory.
After the overall match had already been decided, both Laurence Pelchat and Cam Kincaid took care of business. Gbadamosi thought everyone played well, but specifically mentioned Kincaid's stellar match.
"I think everybody played so well today, especially Cam I would say, she was really on today," Gbadamosi said. "Obviously, we have a better record than they do so it was good that we were able come out here and just play our game."
The Griz defeated a tough, playoff bound Weber State team yesterday and has another tough match ahead of them tomorrow against Northern Arizona. Gbadamosi said Saturday's helped Montana work on things they needed to fix before the crucial NAU match on Sunday.
"I would say especially in my match," Gbadamosi said. "Yesterday, it was tough, but then today I was able to practice what I need to do for tomorrow, so it was definitely a good warm up for tomorrow.""
The No. 3 seed in the Big Sky tournament is on the line Sunday morning when Montana and Northern Arizona meet. The two teams share 8-2 records. The winner earns the three seed and will play No. 6 Portland State in the first round. The loser will take on No. 5 Weber State in the first round, a team that Montana defeated 5-2 on Friday.
Gbadamosi said the whole team is looking forward to the match on Sunday and they are prepared for the tournament.
"We are all super antsy about it," she said. "Obviously, we have the same record right now so this is a big match tomorrow and it would be a really good win for us, so we're super excited for it."
