Sophomores Lidia Dukic and Nathalie Joanlanne picked up singles victories, but Utah State earned the team win with a 5-2 decision over the Montana women's tennis team on Saturday at the Stevens Center in Spokane, Wash.

In a tight match, the Grizzlies (1-8) dropped a three-set decision at No. 5 singles and defaulted the point at No. 6 singles.

"Our energy and determination were the best we've seen this season," said coach Steve Ascher. "The team decided it was going to find another gear to compete with.

"They did a great job today. This is something we want to bring every day and to every match."

The Aggies (7-2) won the doubles point with a 6-0 win at No. 2 and a 6-4 victory at No. 3.

Dukic picked up her team-leading fourth dual win of the spring season, defeating Monika Van de Vondel 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2.

Joanlanne rallied back as well at No. 4, defeating Sabrina Demerath 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 for her third dual win.

Hannah Sulz and Catherine Orfanos, at Nos. 1 and 3, both lost 7-5, 6-3. Ana Carbo lost a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 decision at No. 5.

Montana will be on the road next week for matches at UC Davis and Sacramento State.
