The Montana softball team won one and lost one on Saturday as the Stanford Invitational continued at Palo Alto, Calif.

The Grizzlies (4-15) snapped a four-game losing streak and picked up win No. 4 of the season in their first game of the day, a 4-2 victory over Cal Poly.

In the day's last game on Saturday night, Montana was shut out for the first time this season, as Stanford won its eighth straight game and improved to 14-2 with an 8-0 win in five innings.

Montana opened the scoring against the Mustangs in the bottom of the second, going up 2-0 when Katie Pippel doubled to right-center to score Maddy Stensby and Brooklyn Weisgram.

Stensby scored on an error in the fourth to make it 3-0, and McKenna Tjaden followed with a single to left-center that scored Weisgram, who had reached on a base hit.

That was enough cushion for Colleen Driscoll, who allowed only two infield singles through the first five innings. After giving up three singles in the top of the sixth, she was relieved by Maddy Stensby.

Cal Poly would score twice in the inning, with both runs getting charged to Driscoll.
Â
Driscoll improved to 3-3 and picked up win No. 20 for her career. For Stensby, it was her fourth career save.

Lexi Knauss went 2 for 3, Stensby and Weisgram combined to score Montana's four runs.

Stensby got the start against Stanford and didn't record an out before being relieved by Driscoll. Together they threw 42 pitches in the bottom of the first, which ended with the Cardinal leading 7-0.

In all there were five hits, two errors, a walk and a hit-by-pitch.

Montana had six hits in the game, just three fewer than Stanford. The Grizzlies, who didn't have a strikeout, had hits in four of their five innings at the plate and left runners on in four of them.

Knauss had two of Montana's six hits.

The game ended in the bottom of the fifth, when Stanford scored its eighth run, on a one-out triple to right-center and wild pitch.

Stanford had just four more hits after the first inning. Stensby took the loss to drop to 0-5.

Montana will play Northwestern (13-4) on Sunday at 10 a.m. (MT).
