Griz cap fall season at Gonzaga Invite

The Montana women's tennis team wrapped up its fall tournament season over the weekend with a strong showing at the Gonzaga Invitational in Spokane.
The Grizzlies brought a youthful squad of three freshmen and one junior to GU's Stevens Tennis Center, with the four players who did not travel to the ITA Mountain Regional making the trip. Shivika Agrawal was the lone upperclassmen to play, with freshmen Monika Fizova, Olivia Moir, and Kate Prichard all seeing some of their first action in maroon and silver.
Montana was one of eight teams from around the Western US competing at Gonzaga. The Griz squared off against some traditional regional powerhouses and some Big Sky opponents as well, with players from Eastern Washington, Montana State, Portland State, the University of Portland, Seattle University, Utah State, and the host Bulldogs all in attendance.
Montana went 5-10 overall in singles and 1-3 in doubles during a busy weekend.
"We got a ton of singles matches in this weekend. It was good for our players to face good opponents from the Northwest and test themselves. I saw a lot of growth in the team as they adjusted their strategies and their ability to push their opponents," said head coach Steve Ascher.
"I like how Kate, Monika, and Olivia all found ways to fight back after losing first sets and pushed their opponents by winning second set. I also love how the team was receptive and came away from playing good opponents to galvanize their mindset. I'm looking forward to continuing to work and develop over the next couple months to take a couple steps forward before starting our traditional season this spring."
The Griz now turn their attention inward for the remainder of the fall semester before opening the championship duals season in January.
