The Montana women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Friday, beating a shorthanded Lewis-Clark State team 7-0 on the road in Lewiston, Idaho.
The Grizzlies earned the doubles point and took straight-set wins on three of four courts in singles while picking-up two wins by forfeit, with the Warriors reeling from injury and only five players active.
The win puts Montana at 1-6 on the season and serves as a tune-up for Saturday's match in Pullman against Washington State. Lewis-Clark State falls to 3-7 on the season.
"We did nice work focusing on the matches in front of us and putting in the work to get the job done. LCSC did a nice job competing, and we focused and took care of business. We're excited to move on to Washington State tomorrow," said head coach Steve Ascher.
Montana had little trouble clinching the doubles point, with Kelsey Phillips and Hailey Murphy paring up on court one to beat LCSC's Boylan/Molfe pair 6-1, and the senior combo of Olivia Oosterbaan and Maria Goheen beating the Lucas/Govea pair 6-2 to put UM up 1-0.
In singles, Murphy improved to 5-2 on the season with a win on court one over Lina Boylan (6-1, 6-0). Goheen took her second-straight win on court two, beating Beatritz Lambru 6-2, 6-0 to improve to 3-4 on the year.
Rosie Sterk then beat Bonolo Molofe on court three 6-1, 6-3 for her second win of the year.
The final win of the day for Montana came in a superbreaker, with Shivika Agrawal beating ana Govea 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (6).
Montana squares off against Washington State in Pullman on Saturday with opening serves going up at 1 p.m. (MT).
