The University of Montana women's tennis team moved to 2-0 in Big Sky play with a convincing win over Weber State Friday in Ogden, Utah, 7-0. The Grizzlies made a clean sweep of the Wildcats winning all seven singles matches as well as all three doubles.
So far the Griz have not lost a singles or a doubles match in conference and have only lost one set. Sophomore Ashley Mackey battled through a tough No. 3 match winning her third set 10-3 over Michelle Warwick of Weber.
Freshman Sasha Carter was also pushed in her match as Nittaya Phonharath took Carter to a tie breaker in the second set of their No. 4 match. Carter won the tie break 7-3, winning the match in straight sets.
"The team showed great discipline and determination in the sweep," said coach Steve Ascher. "It's always challenging to win every match and the players stepped up under pressure.
"We are really looking forward to playing a tough Utah State team tomorrow."
Montana will play Utah State at 9:00 a.m. (MT) in Logan, Utah, Saturday before wrapping up its three-match road swing with Idaho State Sunday.
