The University of Montana women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 shutout loss to Washington State on Saturday in Pullman, Wash.
No. 35 Washington State only dropped one doubles match at the No. 1 spot. Montana's Laurence Pelchat and Heather Davidson defeated Liudmiela Vasilieva and Elizaveta Luzina 6-3, 6-1.
Haley Driver pushed her opponent to a 10-point tiebreaker before falling to Andjela Kankaras at the No. 3 spot.
"I thought Washington State did a great job of playing within themselves and not giving up much to work with," said head coach Steve Ascher. "They are a very intelligent team and demonstrated why they have earned a top-30 national ranking."
The loss drops Montana to 2-3 overall in the season.
"Even though losing is a bitter pill to swallow, I believe these are important matches to help guide our players into becoming stronger players and better team overall later on in the season," said the head coach.
Montana stays in Pullman, Wash., to take on Nevada tomorrow. Updates will be on the team's Twitter and Facebook pages, and a full recap will follow the completion of the match on GoGriz.com.
