Griz finish road-trip sweep with 5-2 victory

The Montana women's tennis team completed an unbeaten road trip to Colorado Sunday with a 5-2 victory over Colorado State at Fort Collins. The Grizzlies opened their trip with a 7-0 sweep of Northern Colorado Saturday in Greeley to improve to 2-0 in Big Sky Conference matches.
With its win over the Rams, Montana evened its season record at 4-4. CSU dropped to 0-4.
Senior Heather Davidson and sophomore Laurence Pelchat bounced back after dropping their No. 1 doubles match Saturday against the Bears to record an 8-3 victory over CSU's Natalie Heffron and Adriana Wojakowska to improve to 5-3 in dual matches.
Sophomores Haley Driver and Precious Gbadamosi won 8-4 at No. 3 to give Montana the doubles points.
CSU's Abby Stevens won at No. 2 singles over sophomore Sasha Carter to even the score at 1-1, but Gbadamosi, at No. 4, Davidson, at No. 1, and Pelchat, at No. 5, all won in straight sets to put the Grizzlies up 4-2 and secure the victory.
Junior Maddy Murray closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 6.
Pelchat improved to a team-leading 5-3 in singles matches during Montana's spring dual season. Davidson, Gbadamosi, Murray and Pelchat all went 2-0 in singles matches on the trip, all in straight-set victories.
"Today's match was another solid team performance," UM coach Steve Ascher said. "We saw players continue to step up and control points and demonstrate disciplined play.
"We need to continue to work hard and remain focused on improving so that we can build from this experience. Victories like today will push us forward as a team."
Montana continues its season this weekend with three matches at Bozeman, Mont. The Grizzlies will play neutral-site matches against New Mexico and Idaho on Friday and Saturday, then face Montana State Sunday at 2 p.m. in a Big Sky Conference match.
