Griz drop second match of California trip

The Montana women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to San Francisco Saturday afternoon at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. It was the first outdoor match of the season for the Grizzlies, who lost at Sacramento State Friday afternoon 6-1.
The Dons won their third match in three days to improve to 9-5. Montana fell to 8-7.
The Grizzlies won at No. 3 doubles behind sophomores Haley Driver and Precious Gbadamosi but dropped tight decisions at Nos. 1 and 2 to fall behind 1-0.
Driver, at No. 3, and Gbadamosi, at No. 6, picked up singles victories as well. Junior Ashley Mackey fell at No. 5 in three sets after rolling to a 6-1 victory in the opening set.
"San Francisco is really good, and we had our chances," UM coach Steve Ascher said. "We were right there with them in doubles and in one of the singles matches that we lost, and that could have really tightened things up."
After dropping a 6-1 decision to the Hornets Friday, Montana played a team on Saturday that Ascher believed was an even stronger opponent. The Dons recently beat Northern Arizona, which is battling Montana for second in the Big Sky behind Sac State, 7-0.
"We played smarter and more disciplined tennis today than we did on Friday," Ascher said. "We had opportunities today to take control of points because of it."
The wins for Driver and Gbadamosi extended their winning streaks. The pair won its ninth-straight doubles match, and Gbadamosi won her ninth-straight singles match.
Montana will be off until continuing its Big Sky Conference schedule with a match at Eastern Washington on April 2.
