Griz pick up weekend sweep with win over Seattle

Less than 24 hours after beating their rival Bobcats in Bozeman, the Montana women's tennis team came from behind to defeat Seattle University 5-2 on the neutral courts at MSU to complete the weekend sweep Saturday morning.
Montana (2-3) was facing a near disaster against the Redhawks (1-5) after losing the doubles point and dropping the first singles match of the day to put them in a 2-0 hole.
Things looked to be going from bad to worse for the Griz too, with stars Julia Ronney and Cam Kincaid dropping the first set of their matches on courts one and two.
Then, Ronney, Kincaid and Nathalie Joanlanne on court three decided they had had enough and forced a third set on each court to put the Griz up 3-2 with all the momentum.
"It wasn't looking that good for a while there, but we hung on, and all of a sudden the momentum shifted," said head coach Steve Ascher.
"Julia was super composed and played in an attacking style. Cam worked through some great moments and found a winning game plan, and Nat fought back in the third. It was an awesome comeback."
With the momentum in hand and a 3-2 lead, freshman Bianca Bostrom sealed the victory for Montana on court five, cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kali McCollister.
Fellow freshman Eimear Maher then put the exclamation point on the match with her third-straight victory on court six, defeating Lily-Ana Kreutzer 6-2, 6-4 to give UM the 5-2 win.
"Coming off the MSU match, and all the emotion and the investment that took, this is exciting because we're a fairly young team and still learning how to win," Ascher added. "That was the question, how will we respond today after having a great win? We were able to keep going, and that's awesome."
The win is the second-straight for the Griz in as many days and already puts the team within one victory of their entire 2017 season total.
Buoyed by two road wins, the Griz return home next week for the start of Big Sky Conference play as they host Portland State in Missoula on Sunday, Feb. 10.
The Vikings, who were picked to finish last in the league's preseason poll, will travel to Montana at 0-3 on the season, giving the Griz a chance to equal the same amount of wins they had last season.
First serves against the Vikings go up at 9 a.m. at the Peak Racquet Club.
