The Montana women's tennis team got back in the win column in a big way Saturday, sweeping Northern Colorado 7-0 at the Peak Racquet Club in Missoula.

The Griz improve to 81-4 on the season and 4-6 in Big Sky play, while Bears drop to 5-12 and are now 1-8 in the conference.

Montana picked up a win on all three courts in the doubles round, then fought off a UNC upset bid in singles, with three-set victories on three different courts.

The Grizzlies' top doubles pair of Cam Kincaid and Bianca Bostrom improved to 5-3 in league play with a 6-3 win over UNC's Battersby/Bryan-Otake pair on court one. UM then clinched the point with a 6-2 win on court three from Julia Ronney and Lidia Dukic.

In singles, the Griz extended their lead with a Bostrom and Kincaid each taking a straight-sets win to put them up 3-0.

But UNC made a rally attempt on courts two, four and five, pushing Nathalie Joanlanne, Catherine Orfanos, and Eimear Maher to three sets before the Griz clinched victory on all three.

"It was fun watching the players step up today," said head coach Steve Ascher. "It was also nice to see Cat, Nathalie, and Eimear get a win in well-played three-set matches."

Montana now prepares to finish its three-match homestand with a crucial league tie with the Eastern Washington Eagles, who come to Missoula on Sunday at 2 p.m. reeling from a 4-3 loss to Montana State on Friday.

Sunday's match will be played indoors at the Peak Racquet Club, just off Blue Mountain Road.
