The Montana women's tennis team returns to action this week, taking a big step up in the level of competition as the Grizzlies travel to the Palouse to play in Washington State's Cougar Classic in their second tourney of the fall season. The 2019 Cougar Classic is set for October 4-6 at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts. Play begins at 10 a.m. all three days.
Coming off a 5-1 final day at the Idaho State Invite two weeks ago, the Griz will square off against players from the Pac-12's Cougars, as well as players from Boise State, Gonzaga, Utah State, Seattle University, Eastern Washington, and Montana State.
Montana first-team All-Big Sky junior Julia Ronney earned the highest placement in the tourney as the only player from UM in the Crimson A singles draw. Ronney will open play on Friday at noon against Gonzaga's Hartuna Tsuruta.
Grizzly freshman Maria Goheen earned a slot in the Gray B singles draw, set to face Boise State's Ana Conde Vendrell in the opening round.
Sophomore Lauren Dunlap will play in the Cougar C singles draw, opening against Seattle's Michelle Bader.
Claudia Reguant faces Utah State's Renata Lombera in the first round of the Palouse singles draw, while junior Bianca Bostrom will pair up with Goheen in the Crimson doubles draw, but won't make an appearance in singles. Dunlap and Ronney will also pair up in the Crimson doubles draw, while Reguant and Walker earned a first-round bye in the Grey doubles draw.
