A shorthanded Montana women's tennis team picked up a single win in a 1-6 team loss to the four-time Big Sky champion Idaho Vandals (10-5, 6-0 BSC) on the road in Idaho on Friday evening.

Playing without Julia Ronney, the defending Big Sky Player of the Week, and rehabbing injuries in several other positions, the Griz went 1-2 in the doubles round and got a win on court four in the singles round.

"We competed well. Idaho is having a great season with some very strong senior players. I thought we were in it with them and then they showed why they have won the conference the last couple years," said head coach Steve Ascher. "Hats off to them, it was a solid tennis match."

Senior Nathalie Joanlanne and freshman Alex Walker breezed to a 6-0 win on court two in the doubles round, but wins for the Vandals on courts one and three gave the home team the opening point.

UM's other senior Lidia Dukic got a straight-sets victory on court four (6-3, 6-4) for her fifth win of the season. At 5-11, she's got the second-most wins on the team (behind Ronney) and is now 3-3 in league play.

The loss puts Montana at 3-14 on the season and 3-3 in Big Sky play, but doesn't squash the Grizzlies chances of finishing in the league's top six and advancing to the conference championship tournament in Phoenix.

Montana now remains on the Palouse to take on Eastern Washington in Cheney on Sunday, before returning home for a must-win match against Weber State on April 13, and another tough test against Northern Arizona on the 14^th.
