The Montana soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to three with a 0-0 draw against Idaho on Sunday afternoon at the P1FCU Kibbie Dome in Moscow.
It was only the second time this season the Grizzlies (7-3-3, 1-1-2 BSC) have been kept off the scoreboard.
The Vandals (4-4-6, 1-1-2 BSC) out-shot Montana in the first half, the Grizzlies had the advantage in the second, and the match ended with both teams taking nine shots, both keepers making four saves.
"The first 20 minutes, we just had to figure out their formation, how they were playing," said coach Chris Citowicki. "It was just piecing that together.
"Once we did that and started defending a little better, we got more control of the game. The second half we adjusted a ton of little things and came out well. Our response was good."
Montana put just one shot on goal in the first half but tested Idaho goalkeeper Paula Flores in the second, when she made three of her saves.
Maddie Ditta put a shot off the left post and Chloe Seelhoff had a turnaround shot from 15 yards in front of goal that she sent just over the crossbar.
Ashlyn Dvorak got the shutout for Montana, the 19th of her career. On top of her four saves, the Grizzlies were credited with a pair of team saves.
"It was a matter of who was going to score first. Dvorak made some nice saves, their goalkeeper made some nice saves and nobody scored," said Citowicki.
After dropping its Big Sky opener at Northern Colorado, Montana has picked up points over its last three games and is tied for third in the league standings.
Sacramento State (6-7-1, 2-1-1 BSC) sits atop the standings, but the Hornets played three of their first four league matches at home. Montana played three of its first four on the road.
The Hornets scored five second-half goals to win 5-0 at home over Eastern Washington on Sunday, while Northern Colorado pulled out a surprising 1-0 win at Northern Arizona.
Every Big Sky team has at least one league win, no team has more than two, keeping the nine teams between three and seven points.
"It's madness. I said it at the start of the season. This is the most competitive Big Sky Conference I've seen in my time here. Everybody is keeping everybody close," said Citowicki.
"I'm just happy to get these road games out of the way. Now we can be at home for a little bit. I think we're still in a really good spot."
Montana will host second-place Weber State (8-5-0, 2-1-0 BSC) on Thursday at 3 p.m. at South Campus Stadium, Idaho State (4-5-3, 1-1-1 BSC) next Sunday at noon.
