The Montana women's tennis team will look to end its season on a high note on Sunday as the Griz host Eastern Washington in a Big Sky Conference dual at the Peak Racquet Club.
The Griz (4-13, 2-5 BSC) enter the match with a boost of momentum after upsetting Montana State 4-3 in Missoula last week. The Eagles (4-13, 2-5 BSC) come to Missoula Sunday after falling at MSU 1-6 in a Friday dual in Bozeman that eliminated both UM and EWU from postseason contention.
The Griz and Eagles square off on Easter Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. Admission to the Peak is open to the public and free of charge. Links to live scoring for those unable to make it can be found on the team's schedule page at GoGriz.com/WTEN.
Montana freshman Kate Prichard earned Big Sky Player of the Week honors on Wednesday after a dramatic, come-from-behind clinch in UM's win over MSU.
The Griz trailed the Cats 2-3 at home in arguably the biggest match of the year, but it was two freshmen at the bottom of the lineup that led UM to a 4-3 victory.
Olivia Moir tied the match 3-3 with a three-set win on court five before Prichard then sealed the win in three sets with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win over Bobcat senior Andrea Cuquerellard to secure Montana's third-straight win over MSU.
It was the San Diego native's first clinch of her college career as well as her first Big Sky singles win.
SENIOR DAY: The Grizzlies will celebrate the careers of two seniors that have been some of the premiere players in the league in both singles and doubles throughout their careers at UM: Grace Haugen and Rosie Sterk.
Together they are burning up the Big Sky as a doubles pair again this season with an 11-5 overall record and 5-2 mark in conference play, tied for the second-most overall wins in the league. It's a familiar position for them to be in.
During Montana's regular season title run in 2024 they both earned an all-conference honorable mention for doubles as juniors.
The year before Sterk earned first team All-Big Sky doubles honors with her partner Lauren Dunlap at 13-6 and 6-2, while Haugen was second team all-conference for doubles as a freshman. Haugen came on strong at Montana, finishing her freshman season ranked No. 20 in the ITA's Mountain Region in singles with an 8-7 overall record.
The pair have also been stars in the classroom, earning Academic All-Big Sky and ITA Scholar Athlete honors each year as a Grizzly.
