Idaho State roared back late in the singles round to defeat the Montana women's tennis team 5-2 at the Peak Racquet Club in Missoula on Sunday.
Â
The Griz pulled ahead early in the match, winning the opening doubles round in a third set tiebreaker on court one to go up 1-0.
Â
After a quick singles loss on court four, Montana ace Kelsey Phillips then extended the Griz lead to 2-1 on court one with yet another Big Sky victory, beating Millie Day in straight sets to pick up her sixth-straight conference win to stay unbeaten in league play.
Â
With the win, Phillips is almost certainly destined for first team all-conference honors at 6-0 with just two matches left to play this season and is now in the conversation for Big Sky MVP after already beating two of the top players in the league.
Â
Montana kept the momentum going in the rest of the singles matches as well, winning the first set on courts two, three and five to put a team victory in reach for the Griz.
Â
Idaho State would storm back in the round, however, taking third set victories on all three courts to clinch the win at 4-2, and eventually head back to Pocatello with a 5-2 victory after winning another three-setter on court six.
Â
The Grizzlies fall to 2-14 on the season and are still searching for their first conference win of the year. Idaho State improves to 10-7 and 4-2 in conference play.
Â
Montana now prepares to head to Bozeman for the annual Brawl of the Wild dual against the Bobcats on April 11. The Griz will close out the season on April 18 at home against Weber State. Â Â
