Montana continues road stretch, facing George Fox and Portland State

MISSOULA, Mont. – The Montana women's tennis team continues its road-game stretch as it travels to Oregon to face George Fox and Portland State. The Griz will face the Bruins Saturday, March 12, at 5 p.m. (MT) in Newberg, Ore. at the Multi-Use facility on campus. The team will then play the Vikings on Sunday for their fourth Big Sky Conference match of the season. The match will take place at 11 a.m. (MT) in Portland, Ore. at the Tualatin Hills Babette Horenstein Tennis Center.
Live scoring will be available for both matches, while live streaming will only be available for the match at GFU.
The Griz come off a three-match tour where they faced Gonzaga, Eastern Washington and Idaho. UM finished the weekend 0-3 but came close to posting results over EWU.
"The team had a good week of practice in preparation of getting after matches this weekend. I'm excited to see the team respond and keep improving," said head coach Steve Ascher.

Montana stays home for the rest of the season, playing Weber State Saturday, March 26 at 10 a.m. The Griz will play at the PEAK Racquet Club where admission is free for all fans and spectators.

SCOUTING GEORGE FOX:
- George Fox posts a record of 4-3 overall and 0-2 in the Northwest Conference.
- The Bruins have posted wins against Lewis & Clark College, Pacific (Ore.) and the College of Idaho.
- This will be the first time in recent history that the Griz and Bruins will have met.
- Olivia Morris comes off recent weekly honors from the NWC. The junior went undefeated in her matches against College of Idaho to help extend the team's winning record to four.
- Head coach Rick Cruz is in his 22nd season with the Bruins.
SCOUTING PORTLAND STATE:
- Portland State is 5-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The Vikings have faced Idaho State and Weber State for conference match play and lost 6-1 in both matches.
- The Vikings have defeated Seattle, UC Irvine, Linfield College, San Diego Christian College and College of Idaho.
- The last time UM and PSU faced off was in March of 2021, when Portland State took a 4-3 win over Montana in Portland.
- Montana owns a record of 11-3 versus Portland State. The last time the Griz beat the Vikings was in 2019 when the Griz posted a 5-2 win in Vancouver, Wash.
- The Vikings bring Nika Beukers to this weekend's matchup. The freshman holds a record of 6-3 in singles and 10-2 in doubles.
- Senior Emily Rees also returns to the courts this weekend. The senior earned All-Big Sky second team singles and doubles honors in 2021.
- PSU's head coach, Kyle Russell, is in the midst of his third season with the Vikings. Russell owns a record of 18-24.
A GLIMPSE AT THE GRIZ:
- Montana is 4-10 on the year and 0-3 in Big Sky play. The Griz have edged Seattle, LC State and Dixie State throughout the season.
- Freshman Grace Haugen posts a record of 6-6 in singles and doubles on the year.
- Grizzly Lauren Dunlap owns a record of 6-7 in both singles and doubles.
- Maria Goheen, holds a record of 4-4 in singles, primarily playing in position four.
- Juniors Ivayla Mitkova, Olivia Oosterbaan and Goheen all come off posting results versus Eastern Washington.
- Head coach Steve Ascher owns a record of 124-180 in his 14th season with the Griz.
