
Griz finish weekend falling to Idaho, 7-0

LEWISTON, Idaho – The Montana women's tennis team finished its three-match tour on the road with a 7-0 loss to Idaho Sunday afternoon. The Griz (4-10, 0-3 BSC) traveled to three different locations on the weekend, making it hard to grasp any sort of momentum.
The Vandals (3-4, 2-0 BSC) swept doubles to clinch the first point of the match. Finishing first on court three was UM's Maria Goheen and Claudia Reguant, who fell to UI's Redondo/Dowse, 6-0. Shortly after, Vandals Huchet/Palma clinched a 6-4 win on court two over senior Grizzlies Lauren Dunlap and Alex Walker to put Idaho up one on the Griz. Juniors Olivia Oosterbaan and Ivayla Mitkova took on Idaho's Oliveira/Yang in position one, where they fell 6-4.
From doubles, Idaho found its groove and stuck with it. In position four, Grizzly Mitkova faced Vandal Saffron Dowse where she fell in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1.
On court two, senior Dunlap took on Idaho's Melissa Huchet where she fell in straight sets. In the first set, Dunlap lost 6-0. In the second set, the Grizzly pushed Huchet to a tiebreaker (7-6 (8)).
Oosterbaan made her second appearance in position one but lost to Ines Oliveira in straight sets (6-2, 7-6 (4)). Oliveira's win clinched the win for Idaho, putting the Vandals up 4-0.
In position three, junior Goheen faced Ke Syuan Jhang, losing in straight sets. The Grizzly pushed Jhang to a tiebreaker in the first set, losing 7-6 (2), and fell in the second set 6-1.
UM's Reguant played Nicole Horacek on court six, where she fell in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.
Upperclassman Walker went up against UI's Jayanne Palma on court six, where the two played in three sets. Palma took the first, winning 7-5. Walker came back in the second set, winning 6-3. Palma then took the third set, 10-6, after playing in a super tiebreaker.
The Griz will be back in action Saturday, March 12, and Sunday, March 13 where they will travel to Oregon to take on George Fox and Portland State.
